"Pal! Pal, come here boy!" Dixie ran down the beach, calling out the name of her new pet puppy. Pal was a Golden Retriever dog, and his fur was a lovely pale tan color. She loved him very much, as he had been a present for her birthday. She had also been given a ginger kitten for her birthday. She had named him Kitty because she couldn't think of a better name. He had been a gift from Diddy, but he had run away that very morning. Poor Dixie - the longest time that she had ever kept one of her pets for was two weeks, and that was a pet tortoise. Amazingly, he had run away also. Anyway, it was her puppy that she couldn't find at the moment. "Pal!" she called again. Where was that dog? He couldn't have gone far. Dixie was very wrong. Pal had left the beach, and was running through the forest. He loved being Dixie's pet, but it was boring playing on the beach. But now he was lost. How could he get back to the beach? Rather than keep running deeper into the forest, Pal sat down next to a large plant and began to howl as loudly as he could. He was only a puppy, and his cries for help weren't reaching Dixie. They did, however, reach SOMEONE... "So you say you found it around here?" asked Amy, looking through the bushes. Krusha nodded. Earlier on, he had found a tiny little orange kitten lost in the forest. He was holding it in his arms as Amy searched for a collar or some form of identification. She stopped suddenly. She could hear...well, it sounded like an animal crying. There wasn't any form of identification for the kitten, so she went over to investigate the crying. "Amy! Come back! Duh...what about the kitten?" Amy wasn't listening to him. As she got closer to the animal, she felt more and more sorry for it. Someone must have been abusing this animal from the way it was crying. Finally, she pulled back a leaf and saw the sweetest little puppy ever. Like the kitten, it had no collar or anything. She picked it up and carried it over to Krusha. "Hey look. This puppy hasn't got a collar, either. What a sweet little thing, don't you think?" Krusha wasn't so sure - the little dog looked vicious to him. He thought the kitten was nicer. Amy began to walk back in the direction of the factory, so Krusha followed her. "I think I'll call this puppy...'Lucky', because it's lucky that we found him." she smiled. The kitten was crawling all over Krusha's shoulders. "Duh...what about the kitty?" Amy waved her hand in the air. "Um, how about 'Fernando'?" "What?" "I think that suits him. What a lucky day for us, eh Krush? Krush?" "Uh huh." "Good. Wait 'till Klump sees these two little sweeties! And King K. Rool, of course." Dixie finally gave up the search for her lost animals. How could she ever tell DK and Candy that she lost the puppy that they gave her for her birthday? She was walking along the beach with Diddy, and she had told him about the kitten that he gave her. "I knew that kitten wouldn't last more than a week." he sighed, "How can you possibly lose animals THAT fast? Only a few days after you get them?" Dixie couldn't answer, because she didn't know. They sat down together on the sand. "And I don't know how to tell DK and Candy about Pal." "You've got a dawg!" said Klump, opening his arms to 'Lucky', "Come to Uncle Klump!" The puppy obliged, sniffing Klump from head to tail. The kitten was crawling around in Krusha's clothes, and Krusha kept squirming and clenching his teeth. Klump wasn't paying attention to his large blue friend. "I'll bet this dawg would be useful in th'army." he said. Amy's eyes widened and she smiled. "Dawg? I do declare, you have the most wonderful accent in the world!" Klump smiled. "Dawg." Amy laughed until she hurt herself. Krusha was almost in tears. The kitten crawling through his clothes wasn't giving much comfort. A little face looked out from Krusha's left trouser leg. It then disappeared back into the depths. Klump was walking in circles as the puppy followed him. He patted it. "I wonder if someone abandoned it or something." The dog did a forward roll and a somersault. "Talented, ain't he?" "Ain't? Dawg? Hahahahahaaaa!" Amy squealed. Someone tapped her on the shoulder. "Please...can you remove this k-kitten...it's hurting me..." Krusha was crying. Amy revealed a cat treat from her pocket and held it by Krusha's foot. Instantly, the kitten emerged and was eating the treat. Amy picked it up. Krusha waddled away. "I'm gonna freshen up..." he said, staggering to the bathroom. "I think this here dawg would make a good member of my army. He could track things down for me. And...all that other dawg stuff." Klump said, "I'll bet King K. Rool'll wanna see him." Klump scooped up Lucky in his arms and went off in the direction of the main hall, followed by Amy, who was in stitches of laughter. "Dids, please." Dixie begged, "You've got to help me find Pal. I don't want to upset Candy and DK by telling them about it. I have to find my dog." Diddy gave her a hug. "Of course I will, Dix. Diddy to the rescue!" Dixie giggled. "Thanks a lot, Dids. You know how upset DK and Candy will get if they find out. Dogs cost money, you know. And as a present. It's a bit stupid to lose a present as special as a puppy." Diddy held her hand. "We'll have to look ourselves. I mean, if we put up posters and things, DK and Candy'll find out, won't they?" This would, of course, make the job even more difficult. They weren't as worried about Pal as they might be about Crabby or any of Dixie's edible pets. You wouldn't exactly eat a dog, would you? Well, you might. It just depends where you live, but the majority of Kongo Bongo inhabitants wouldn't even dream of doing a thing like that. What about the lizards? Crocs can eat anything with such stomach acid as they have. Oh dear. Back to square one: worrying. 'Lucky' grabbed the stick in his teeth and ran back to K. Rool, who threw the stick again. The dog was jumping around with excitement. K. Rool loved him. Klump and Amy watched, smiling. "Sir, I was thinking he might be useful in the army. Y'know, being a dawg." Amy giggled again. K. Rool had a think. "I suppose. He could possibly be Crystal Coconut-stealing material. Intense training will be necessary-" "Sure, I'll train 'im to be an army dawg. He can sniff out drugs and stuff." "Why would we need to sniff out drugs, General?" "I dunno. But dawgs do that, don't they?" "Yes, I guess dawgs do that." Amy sniggered. "He'll probably be worth keeping." K. Rool smiled. The 'dawg' yipped happily and danced around the King. "You hear that, little fellow?" said K. Rool, "You're ours for keeps, now." "Pal!" Dixie called out. Diddy looked into each bush he came across, hoping to see the little puppy. Dixie was sobbing. "Where is he, Dids?" she cried. Diddy shook his head. "You know, something tells me that 'King K. Fool' has taken him. That's it, I'll bet he's holding him for ransom, and we won't get him back until we give him the Crystal Coconut." Dixie wiped the tears from her eyes. "Oh Dids," she sighed, "You're so clever. It's worth a look. I just hope K. Rool isn't in the mood for puppy pie or anything." Diddy nodded and they both ran off at top speed in the direction of K. Rool's factory. K. Rool was just giving Lucky some highly-expensive dog food when the two apes appeared. He groaned. "What do you want?" "Pal!" Dixie exclaimed when she saw her puppy. She ran forward to him, but K. Rool leapt in front of her. "Not so fast. What do you want with this puppy?" "This is my puppy." she said, looking up at the large reptile, "And I've come to take him home." "Well, I have something to say about that-" Diddy spoke up. "Let me guess. You won't give us the dog until we give you the Crystal Coconut in return. Is that it?" K. Rool was silent. The corners of his mouth slowly turned upwards in an evil grin. "What a good idea, little furball. I hadn't thought of that." Diddy knew that this was the perfect time to feel stupid. He turned, slowly, followed by Dixie. "We'll go and get the Coconut for you." K. Rool smiled. "Thankyou for the idea! I'll be waiting here with your precious dog." Thankfully, when Dixie and Diddy arrived at Cranky's Cabin, the old ape was asleep. Quietly, they grabbed the Crystal and ran out of the cabin. "I'm really sorry, Dix." said Diddy, "If only I'd kept my banana-hole shut." Dixie sighed. "I don't blame you, Dids. I lost my pets in the first place. K. Rool knows he can easily use my pets to blackmail me into getting him the Coconut. This isn't the first time he's done this to me." The two monkeys ran as fast as they could, with images of puppy pie and dog burgers going through their heads. A few minutes before the monkeys arrived back, Klump, Krusha (who had recovered) and Amy paid K. Rool a little visit. The King was excited to tell them his nefarious scheme. "Guess what! I'm going to get the Crystal Coconut in return for this little canine creature! Isn't that pure genius? Of course it is! I'm going to be so powerful!" "Will we, duh, have to give this kitten as well?" asked Krusha, holding up 'Fernando'. K. Rool ran his tongue along his teeth. "I suppose. It doesn't really matter. Once I have the Crystal Coconut, I'll be able to take them back again." Klump looked at Lucky. "Who does he belong to?" he asked. "Oh, that little girl ape who hangs around with Diddy Kong. You know, Dixie Kong." Klump fell silent. He stammered a little. "Dixie?" "That's right, Dixie Kong. Not Donkey Kong or Candy Kong, but Dixie Kong." The aforementioned chimps Diddy and Dixie arrived on the scene. "Here's your Crystal, K. Rool." said Dixie, determined not to be frightened of K. Rool. The huge lizard leaned forward. "Give it here." he ordered. Klump was holding onto the puppy, and Krusha held onto the kitten. They were thinking of what to do. Dixie looked frantic. "Please, give me my pets first and then you can have the Crystal, I promise, just give them to me. I promise." Tears began to form in her eyes. She couldn't help but think that K. Rool would take the Crystal and keep her pets. Not only did they have Pal, but they had Kitty as well. She wanted them both back. "I am a lizard, and I keep my word." said K. Rool, "I will give you Lucky and this kitten-" "Fernando." Krusha interrupted. K. Rool glared at him. "I will give you Lucky and Fernando once I have the Coconut, alright?" "Their names are Pal and Kitty!" Dixie snapped at them, furious that they had changed the names of her beloved animals. "Give me the Crystal Coconut!" snarled K. Rool. Klump looked at Krusha, who looked at Amy, who looked back at Klump. "Poor kid." Krusha whispered, "Duh, I wish we could just give these animals to her." "We'd get fired for sure." Amy pointed out. Klump looked at the little female ape, who seemed tiny compared with the King. "I've got an idea." he whispered to Krusha. Amy wasn't listening, and was looking at K. Rool. Klump leaned over towards his large friend. "Here's what we gotta do:" Krusha looked at him as he whispered the orders... "Please, K. Rool, give me my pets!" "That's KING K. Rool to you, my dear! And I won't give you the animals until I get the Crystal Coconut!" Dixie was just about to co-operate when a loud shout rang through the air. K. Rool, Dixie and Diddy all turned to see what was happening. "That dawg bit me! Oh cruel twist of fate!" yelled K. Rool's General. He bumped into Krusha, who dropped the kitten on the floor. "Duh, Klump don't be so clumsy! Duh...now you have caused me to drop the kitten! Duh, what a silly thing to do!" Another shriek of pain was heard when Krusha stood on Amy's foot. The two pets, now free from the lizards' clutches, ran over to Dixie. K. Rool's mouth hung open. "You stupid, STUPID morons! How the Heck could even YOU let something like that happen?!" He turned to Dixie, who was being licked and sniffed by her pets. "We had a deal, Miss Kong! Give me the Coconut!" Diddy grabbed Dixie's arm. "Come on, Dix! Let's get out of here!" They ran from the factory, taking Pal, Kitty and the Crystal Coconut with them. "Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat??!!" screamed K. Rool. He ran over to his henchmen. "What the Heck happened?!" "Well-" "You MORONS!!" He ran back to his platform and retreated to the upper area of the factory, muttering some terrible things about his useless workers. Everything was quiet. Amy had to hop on one leg because of Krusha's carelessness, and she began to hop in the direction of the emergency supplies. "I'll get some bandages and things for you, alright? Let me have a look at that bite, Klump." "I didn't get bitten." Amy stopped hopping and turned around. "What?" "We made the whole thing up. I pretended to get bitten and bump into Krusha, and he pretended to a
